The Young Rascals - Groovin' 1967

Eddie Brigati (vocals), Felix Cavaliere (keyboard, vocals), Gene Cornish (guitar) and Dino Danelli (drums) started the band in New Jersey. Their first two singles were covers, but after that the band's songwriting team of Brigati and Cavaliere began providing most of their songs, and the hits kept coming for the next two years. "I've Been Lonely Too Long" & "You Better Run", were only modest hits, but "Groovin'" (#1 US/Canada, 1967) put them at the top of the charts on both sides of the pond. The song was very different from the Rascals' normal style, enough so that Atlantic Records head Jerry Wexler did not actually want to release it. It was the only hit the Rascals had in the UK. The Young Rascals were particularly popular in the second half of the '60's and the band's influence on aspiring white R&B acts was without equal. Many groups attempted to capture the Rascals' attitude and energy. Vanilla Fudge, the epitome of over-the-top funky psychedelia, among many others, owed much to the Rascals'.

Young Rascals - How Can I Be Sure (1967)

Studio Version. Lyrics. pics. www.young-rascals.com How can I be sure in a world that's constantly changing? How can I be sure where I stand with you? Whenever I, whenever I am away from you I wanna die 'cause you know I wanna stay with you. How do I know? Maybe you're trying to use me. Flying too high can confuse me. Touch me but don't take me down. Whenever I, whenever I am away from you My alibi is telling people I don't care for you. Maybe I'm just hanging around with my head up upside down. It's a pity, I can't seem to find someone who's as pretty and lovely as you. How can I be sure? I really really really wanna know. I really really really wanna know. Oh. How can I be sure in a world that's constantly changing? How can I be sure? I'll be sure with you

A very bouncy tune from the Rascals. It was a party favorite during the 60s and rock bands made sure that this version was included in their repertoire. Live bands were a regular staple during parties then. Do you remember this one?

Ain't no sense in stayin' inside If the weather's fine an' you got the time. It's your chance to wake up and plan another brand new day. Either way, It's a beautiful mornin', Ahhh, Each bird keeps singin' his own song. So long! I've got to be on my way, now. Ain't no fun just hangin' around, I've got to cover ground, you couldn't keep me down. It just ain't no good if the sun shines When you're still inside, Shouldn't hide, still inside, shouldn't hide, Ahhhh..Oh! (shouldn't hide) Ah, ah, Oh..... (Do, do, Waaa) (Do, do, Waaa) There will be children with robins and flowers; Sunshine caresses each new waking hour. Seems to me that the people keep seeing More and more each day, gotta say, lead the way, It's okay, wednesday, thursday, it's okay, (Ahhh) monday, wednesday, friday, weekday, Ah, Ah, Ohhh. (Do, do, Waaa) Ah, Ah, Oh, Oh, (Do, Do - Aaaa) Wooooo oo oo oh, oh, oh, Ah wo, do, waa Ohhhhhhh.....Oh, Oh, Oh, .....

Groovin' (Italian Version) The Young Rascals

Very rare version of The Young Rascals' international hit, "Groovin'. In the spring of 1967, this record topped the charts & remained there throughout the summer of that year. Ahmet Ertegun and the good folks at Atlantic Records, decided to have their biggest selling artists (at the time) re-record it in Italian and Spanish. The Engish version translated so well globally, that they never pursued the Italian & Spanish versions any further. But, since The Young Rascals were an Italian group from New York(except for Gene Cornish-guitarist), I'm sure their families were quite proud of them. I absolutely love this version...hope you do, too. To all my paisanis around the world...Enjoy!!! Daddy

Groovin' (Spanish Version) - The Young Rascals

I posted the Italian version a few months ago, to the surprise & delight of many Rascals fans who never knew it existed. The flip-side of that 45 is the Spanish version. I put up the Italian version 1st because of it's uniqueness...however, since Spanish is spoken so widely around the globe, I thought it was time to post it for all the good little muchachas & muchachos to enjoy! The backing track is identical to the hit English version we all know & love...only the lead vocals are changed. Released in the Spring of 1967 (on a rare Atlantic promo), here's The Young Rascals' "Groovin'" (Spanish Version). Enjoy!!! Daddy C

LINK: tinyurl.com The term "blue-eyed soul" was allegedly coined for the Rascals (originally The Young Rascals), whose approximation of mid-Sixties black pop crossed the color line. Dino Danelli began his career as a teenage jazz drummer (he played with Lionel Hampton's band) but switched to R&B while working in New Orleans, and he returned to New York to accompany such R&B acts as Little Willie John. There he met Eddie Brigati, a pickup singer on the local R&B circuit. Felix Cavaliere had studied classical piano before becoming the only white member of the Stereos, a group based in his suburban hometown. While a student at Syracuse University, he formed a doo-wop group, the Escorts. After leaving school, Cavaliere moved to New York City, where he met Danelli, and the two migrated to Las Vegas to try their luck with a casino house band. On their return to New York, Cavaliere joined Joey Dee and the Starliters (sometimes spelled Starlighters), which included Brigati and Gene Cornish. The Rascals came together in 1964 after Cavaliere, Brigati, and Cornish left Dee and formed a quartet with Danelli. In February 1965 they began gigging in New Jersey and on Long Island. By year's end they had changed their name to the Young Rascals (after The Little Rascals) and released their first Atlantic single, "I ...
